Are you preparing for the RRB NTPC 2026 exam? If yes, then you might be feeling nervous about the huge syllabus. You might wonder how to finish reading so many thick books before the exam day. But most aspirants don’t know that they do not need to study every single page. The Railway Recruitment Board repeats specific types of questions every year. If you study smartly and focus mostly on these highly repeated topics, you can easily clear the cutoff marks. In this blog, we will break down the exact important topics for all subjects to help you save your precious time and study only what matters. This will simplify your preparation and help you prioritize the most important topics.

Understand the Exam Pattern

Before we look at the topics, you must know how the CBT 1 (Computer-Based Test) is designed. You will get a total of 90 minutes to solve 100 questions.

  • General Awareness: 40 Questions (40 Marks)
  • Mathematics: 30 Questions (30 Marks)
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 Questions (30 Marks)

Remember, there is a strict negative marking of one-third mark for every wrong answer. You must focus on accuracy. Let us look at the most important chapters for each subject.

1. Important Topics for General Awareness (40 Marks)

This section carries the highest marks. It takes very little time to solve, but the syllabus is like an endless ocean. To save time, only read these specific areas:

  • Current Affairs: This is highly important. Read the news of the last eight to ten months. Focus specifically on sports awards, international summits, new government schemes, and new appointments.
  • General Science (10th Level): The railway board loves science. Focus on basic biology like vitamins, human diseases, and the human body. For physics and chemistry, learn the SI units and basic chemical formulas like baking soda or washing soda.
  • Static GK: These facts never change and give you free marks. Memorize Indian folk dances, classical music, national parks, famous temples, and important dates.
  • History: Do not waste time reading deep ancient history. Focus heavily on the modern Indian freedom struggle, the establishment of the Indian National Congress, and the Gandhi era.
  • Indian Polity: Memorize the fundamental rights, duties, and the most important articles of the Constitution.

2. Important Topics for Mathematics (30 Marks)

Do not let calculations scare you. There is no high-level engineering calculus in this exam. It is pure 10th-standard arithmetic. Master these chapters:

  • Percentage, Profit and Loss, Discount: This is the heart of the maths section. Learn basic fraction values to solve these questions quickly.
  • Time and Work / Pipes and Cisterns: Questions about how many days a person or a pipe takes to finish a job. Learn the simple LCM method to solve these without heavy formulas.
  • Simple and Compound Interest: Practice direct formula-based questions and the difference between simple and compound interest for two or three years.
  • Time, Speed and Distance: Focus especially on problems related to trains crossing a platform or a pole.
  • Number System, LCM and HCF: Basic division rules and finding the lowest common multiple.
  • Basic Mensuration: Just learn the direct formulas for the area and volume of basic shapes like squares, rectangles, cylinders, and cones.

3. Important Topics for Reasoning (30 Marks)

Reasoning is your biggest friend. It is highly scoring, and you can easily get a full 30 out of 30 if your daily practice is good.

  • Coding-Decoding: This is asked the most. Memorize the number positions of the English alphabet so you can find the hidden pattern in five seconds.
  • Number and Alphabet Series: Basic addition, subtraction, or square logic applied to a line of numbers.
  • Syllogism (Statement and Conclusion): Learn the simple Venn diagram trick to solve these questions without any confusion.
  • Blood Relations: Simple family tree puzzles.
  • Mathematical Operations: Questions where you have to change a plus sign to a minus sign and solve the equation using the BODMAS rule.
  • Venn Diagrams: Finding the logical relationship between three given words using overlapping circles.

3 Simple Tricks to Clear the Cutoff

  1. Solve Previous Year Papers: The Railway Board mostly asks its old questions. Solving the last three years of RRB NTPC and Group D question papers is much more important than reading any new heavy book.
  2. Give Daily Topic Tests: Do not just read theories. Give short 15-minute tests on your mobile phone for your weak chapters. This locks the concept in your brain permanently.
  3. Learn the Art of Skipping: If a math puzzle is taking more than one minute, leave it immediately. Move to the easy GK questions. Do not let your ego waste your exam time.

You do not need to study 15 hours a day to clear the RRB NTPC exam. You just need to be consistent with your practice. Stick to these important topics, revise your short notes daily, and you will definitely see your name on the final selection list.
