The IBPS PO Exam Pattern Changes for 2025 are given below in clear pointers:
After the prelims examination, it is now time for mains preparation. There are changes in the mains exam pattern. Now, the number of questions has been dropped from 155 to 145, and the time has also been reduced from 180 minutes to 160 minutes. Hardly 48 days are left, and to complete the vast syllabus of IBPS PO Mains, you need to strategise your preparation. Below we have given a detailed mains pattern and syllabus for your reference.
Total reduction: Questions dropped from 155 to 145; time reduced from 180 to 160 minutes.
| Exam Stage | Section Coverage | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| Prelims | Emphasis shifted to Reasoning (+10 marks); Quantitative reduced. | Section-wise marking unchanged. |
| Mains (Objective) | Added digital/financial awareness; merged Computer Aptitude into Reasoning; minor tweaks in marks/time per section. | Total Qs/time reduced for sharper focus. |
| Mains (Descriptive) | New inclusion of essay & letter section (25 marks, 30 min) aligning with SBI PO style. |
Prelims:
Since reasoning now has more weight, focus more on puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogisms, and basic logical reasoning. These topics can help you score well quickly if you’re accurate.
Mains :
Each section has a fixed time, so practice with a timer. Focus more on General Awareness, especially current updates related to RBI, banking, and fintech.
Descriptive Paper:
This tests your writing. Practice writing formal letters (around 150 words) and structured essays (around 250 words) to improve speed and clarity.
Total Time in Mains:
You now get 190 minutes in total 160 minutes for objective and 30 minutes for descriptive, which is 20 minutes less than before.
There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty to arrive at the corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e., no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.
