Expert Observation According to the Latest Pattern

Quantitative Aptitude: Since marks are reduced (35 Qs → 30 Marks), question selection would be crucial. Expect moderate DI, simplification, number series and arithmetic-heavy sets but with balanced difficulty. As per the trend of previous year papers, we have not seen the difficulty level of this section changing.

Reasoning: Reasoning now carries the highest weight. Expect 3-4 sets of puzzles/seating, tough critical reasoning, and new pattern syllogism/inequalities. Increased marks indicate more challenging and time-consuming questions. Selecting Easy & Moderate Questions becomes very important.

English: No pattern shift here. Expect 8-10 questions of RC (moderate level), fillers, error spotting, and new pattern word swapping/para jumbles.

Why a Strategic Preparation Plan Matters

The IBPS PO Prelims is the first stage of the selection process for candidates who apply for the number of vacancies (5,208 for 2025).  The Prelims consist of an online multiple-choice test. Only those who meet both the sectional and overall cut-offs will advance to the Mains exam, which is scheduled for 12th October 2025.

  • Time Constraints: The prelims exam contains 20 minutes for each section, so speed and accuracy are an important part of the IBPS PO 2025 preliminary exam.
  • High Competition: The rising number of applicants increases cut-off marks each year.
  • Revised Pattern: This year, IBPS has changed the pattern for prelims and mains. As a result, the reasoning and quant sections may be of a moderate to difficult level.
  • Foundation for Mains: Strong Prelims preparation builds a solid base for the more challenging Mains exam.

IBPS PO Prelims 2025: Expected Difficulty Level

Based on recent trends and expert predictions:

  • English Language: Easy to Moderate
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Moderate
  • Reasoning Ability: Moderate to Difficult (high scoring, increased weightage)

So, an effective preparation strategy must factor in these expected difficulty levels to maximise scores strategically.

Understand the revised exam pattern and sectional strategy

Get thoroughly familiar with the latest IBPS PO Prelims Exam 2025 pattern: 3 sections – Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and English. Focus more on Reasoning, as it has more weightage now.

Start with topic-wise tests for a strong conceptual base

Start preparing by solving topic-wise tests for each chapter in Quant, Reasoning, and English. This will help you quickly identify weak areas and work on speed and accuracy.

Solve previous year question papers to get familiar with the exam trend

Practice previous year question papers regularly to understand the difficulty level, question trends, and frequently asked topics. Solve them in a timed environment.

Take daily mini mock tests for sectional speed and accuracy

Take daily mini mock tests for every section (Quant, Reasoning, English) to improve your sectional timing, question selection and accuracy under pressure.

Take full-length mock tests with sectional timing

Include full-length mock tests (based on the latest pattern) at least 3-4 times a week. Use a sectional timer and analyse your performance after every test to track accuracy, attempts, and time distribution.

Use 5 rank booster mock tests before exam week

In the last 7-10 days before prelims, take 5 specially designed rank booster mock tests to simulate the pressure of the actual exam. Focus on maximising attempts and minimising errors.

Analyse every test attempt in detail

After every mock or mini test, carefully analyse your mistakes, skipped questions, and time-consuming sections. Revise the weak concepts immediately and adjust your strategy accordingly.

Revise short tricks, formulas and high-frequency questions daily

Spend the last 20-30 minutes of your study schedule daily in revising short tricks, arithmetic formulas, reasoning patterns and high-frequency English questions from your notes and tests.
