SSC CGL English Preparation Strategy for 2 Months

2 months are just sufficient time to complete your English preparation for SSC CGL exam. But it can be made easy if you follow a strategy or a plan to complete your study. Below we have provided a week-wise strategy to prepare English for SSC CGL 2025 in 2 months.

Week 1-2: Foundation Building

  1. First of all, understand the SSC CGL English syllabus and exam pattern so that you can know your weak areas and plan your study systematically.
  2. Focus 1.5 hours daily on grammar basics: parts of speech, tenses, subject-verb agreement. Understand rules, exceptions, and usage. Use Wren & Martin and S.P. Bakshi books for the best for the exam.
  3. Spend 1 hour daily on vocabulary using Word Power Made Easy. Learn 10-15 new words with synonyms and antonyms. You are advised to read editorials in The Hindu or The Indian Express for context and comprehension.
  4. Practice questions on topics like error spotting, cloze test, fill-in-the-blanks, etc.

Week 3-4: Skill Development

  1. Practice questions on para jumbles. Try to understand patterns, identify linking words, and practice regularly to master para jumbles.
  2. Make sure you are revising those words that you have learned in the past. Focus on learning advanced synonyms and antonyms, and focus on spelling rules and common misspellings.
  3. Solve cloze tests, sentence improvement, and error correction exercises to apply grammar concepts effectively.
  4. Keep revising the grammar rules, vocabulary (antonyms, synonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, etc.)

Week 5-6: Practice Mock Test and Sample Test

  1. Start practicing the mock test (time-bounded and non-time-bounded). This will enable you to improve your speed, accuracy, and time management skills.
  2. Dedicate extra time to strengthening your weak topics related to grammar, vocabulary, and passages. This is the most important part of the SSC CGL English section
  3. Regularly review learned words using flashcards and online quizzes so that you can revise and practice.
  4. Take full-length mock tests and carefully analyze the performance report so that you can know your weaknesses and be able to make them strong.
  5. Focus on specific problem areas like Cloze Tests or Sentence Improvement; this will help you to boost your language fluency and speed.

Week 7-8: Revision, Practice, and Speed Boosting

  1. Continue practicing the full-length mock tests and English topic tests, but this time you have to practice at least 4-5 tests a week.
  2. Carefully analyze your result and focus on your weak areas. Make sure you are not picking any new topics.
  3. Practice reading passages faster; time yourself to increase reading speed and comprehension efficiency.
  4. Review all grammar rules and intensely revise vocabulary, focusing on challenging synonyms, antonyms, idioms, and one-word substitutions; revise short notes.
  5. At last, just be confident in your preparation, maintain a positive mindset, get proper sleep, and follow a proper diet.
