Concept of Geometry

Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies shapes, sizes, positions, and properties of spaces and objects. It helps us understand and describe the physical world around us by exploring points, lines, surfaces, and shapes.

Go through the concept of geometry before moving on to the geometry questions for SSC CGL 2025 exam.

Basic Geometry Formulas

1. Lines and Angles:

  • Sum of angles in a triangle: 180°
  • Sum of angles in a quadrilateral: 360°
  • Pythagorean theorem (Right Triangle): a2+b2=c2

2. Perimeter Formulas:

  • Square: Perimeter=4×side
  • Rectangle: Perimeter=2×(length+width)
  • Triangle: Perimeter = a + b + c (sum of all sides)
  • Circle (Circumference): Circumference=2πr or πd

3. Area Formulas:

  • Square: Area=side2
  • Rectangle: Area=length×width
  • Triangle: Area=1/2×base×height
  • Circle: Area=πr2

4. 3D Shapes (Surface Area and Volume):

Cube:

  • Surface Area = 6×side2
  • Volume = side3

Rectangular Prism:

  • Surface Area = 2×(length×width+width×height+height×length)
  • Volume = length×width×height

Sphere:

  • Surface Area = 4πr2
  • Volume = 4/3πr3

Cylinder:

  • Surface Area = 2πr(r+h)
  • Volume = πr2h

Cone:

  • Surface Area = πr(r+l) (where l is the slant height)
  • Volume = 1/3πr2h
