Master Strategy to Solve Coding-Decoding Questions Quickly

Follow these proven strategies to solve questions accurately and within seconds:

1. Identify the coding pattern

Check whether the code is:

  • Letter shifting (forward/backwards in alphabetical order)
  • Opposite letter pattern (A ↔ Z, B ↔ Y)
  • Position number (A=1, B=2, C=3…)
  • Number-based / symbol-based
  • Substitution or word-based replacement

2. Compare input and output carefully

Observe mapping between letters:

  • Example: CAT → ECV means +2 shift
  • Always analyse first and last letters to detect a pattern quickly.

3. Use the elimination technique

Don’t decode fully if options help:

  • Match only the first letters or numbers to eliminate 50% options immediately.

4. Practice reverse pattern understanding

Train yourself to decode backwards (given code → original word).

5. Note repetitive logic

If one word is solved, apply the same logic to all remaining words to save time.

6. Decode with a tabular approach

Create a quick table for letter positions to avoid mistakes:

LetterPositionReverse
A1Z
M13N
Z26A

7. Decode sentence/symbol coding smartly

For sentence coding, find common words to detect meanings.
Example:

  • RAM is good → 8%2
  • SITA is good → 9%2
Common part is good = %2

8. Practice new pattern variety

Focus on:

  • Matrix coding
  • Pair-letter coding
  • Substitution coding
  • Conditional symbol coding

9. Time management

  • Easy & direct pattern questions → 10–15 seconds
  • Sentence or symbol based → 30–40 seconds
Skip long questions first and return later.
