IBPS Exam Eligibility: Educational Qualifications

Eligibility criteria for IBPS exams vary slightly depending on the specific exam (PO, Clerk, SO or RRB), but educational qualification requirements generally include:

Bachelor’s degree: Candidates must have a degree in any discipline from a recognised university or equivalent. This applies to IBPS PO, Clerk and RRB Office Assistant/Officer Scale exams.

Specialised degree for SO: For IBPS SO, specific roles (e.g., IT Officer, Law Officer) require professional qualifications such as degrees in engineering, law or other relevant fields.

Minimum marks: While IBPS does not usually specify a minimum percentage for most exams, candidates must pass their degree program.

Can Final Year Students Apply for the IBPS Exam?

All the educational qualifications mentioned should be from a University/ Institution/ Board recognised by the Government of India/ approved by the Government. Regulatory Bodies and the result should have been declared on or before the cut-off date (likely the end of June 2025). As per the IBPS eligibility guidelines, final-year students are generally allowed to apply for IBPS exams, provided they meet certain conditions:

  1. Provisional Eligibility:
    • Candidates in their final year or semester of a graduate degree program (or relevant qualification for SO) can apply for the IBPS exam.
    • They will have to wait for their final results at the time of application.
  2. Degree Completion Before Document Verification:
    • Final year students must ensure that they complete their degree and acquire the required qualification by the cutoff date specified in the IBPS notification (usually before the document verification or interview stage).
    • For example, if the IBPS PO 2025 notification specifies that candidates must obtain their degree by August 2025, then final year students who graduate by that date are eligible to apply.
  3. Proof of Qualification:
    • At the time of document verification (or interview for exams like IBPS PO), candidates must produce their degree certificate or a provisional certificate from their university confirming they have passed the qualifying examination.
    • Failure to provide proof of qualification by the specified date will result in disqualification.

IBPS Exams and Final Year Student Eligibility

Here is how final year student eligibility applies to major IBPS exams:

IBPS PO and Clerk:

  • Final year students can apply if they are in the final year/semester of their undergraduate degree.
  • They must complete their degree before the interview (for PO) or document verification (for Clerk).

IBPS SO:

  • For specialist roles, final year students of relevant professional courses (e.g., B.E./B.Tech for IT Officer, LLB for Law Officer) can apply, provided they complete their degree by the specified cutoff date.
  • The degree must match the specific requirements of the SO post.

IBPS RRB:

  • Like PO and Clerk, final year students can apply for RRB Office Assistant and Officer Scale I, II or III, provided they complete the academic qualification by the deadline.
