In cement, unsoundness is caused due to excess lime, magnesia, and silica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"369\" height=\"234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.practicemock.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-21-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53066\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Procedure to perform Le \u2013 chatelier test<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.practicemock.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-20-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53064\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Before conducting the test, lightly apply oil to both the Le-Chatelier mould and the glass plates.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To prepare the cement paste, cement is gauged with 0.78 times the amount of water needed to achieve a paste of standard consistency.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Carefully fill the Le-Chatelier mould with the cement paste, ensuring that the edges of the mould are gently kept together during this step.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cover the mould with another glass plate and place a small weight on top of the cover plate.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Immediately submerge the entire assembly in water at a temperature of 27\u00b12\u00b0C and keep it submerged for 24 hours.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>After 24 hours, take out the assembly from the water at 27\u00b12\u00b0C and measure the distance between the indicator points, which we&#8217;ll call measurement A.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Submerge the assembly in water again at 27\u00b12\u00b0C and slowly bring the water to a boil within 25 to 30 minutes. Maintain a boiling temperature for 3 hours, with the assembly still immersed in water throughout this process.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Remove the mould from the boiling water and allow it to cool back down to 27\u00b12\u00b0C.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Once the mould has cooled, measure the distance between the indicator points again, and this measurement will be referred to as measurement B.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calculation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expansion= B- A<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where, A = The measurement taken after 24hours of immersion in water at 27 \u00b1 2\u00b0C<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B = The measurement taken after 3hours of immersion in water at boiling temperature<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The soundness of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Low heat cement, high alumina cement, and rapid-hardening cement should not be more than 10mm.
