Why RRB PO is a better job than SBI PO for some aspirants?

RRB PO Vs SBI PO is one of the most heated debates amongst the banking aspirants. You can find countless videos on YouTube regarding this matter. What is strange is that nobody really wants to look at it from the perspective of an individual. Everybody jumps on the collective perceptions and ideas.

Mostly, you will find that SBI PO is regarded as the most affluent job opportunity in the banking sector and to which only RBI Grade B can be considered as an exception. But this article will today prove that IBPS RRB PO, might be a better option for some of the aspirants.

Let’s look at the benefits of IBPS RRB PO comprehensively rather than conservatively:

In order to have a fair opinion about RRB PO, one will have to understand that what’s the nature of the job, the types of organizations or banks that come under RRB, and what other advantages it can provide in non-monetary ways.

Here are some of the overlooked benefits of IBPS RRB PO jobs?

You get posted locally or at nearby places

Some aspirants might prefer locations that demand migration but not everybody has the same desire. Some people just prefer to work in the same city or at nearby places. Regional rural banks prefer such a pattern whereas SBI being a nationwide bank has different priorities.

SBI is a bigger brand but it also attracts too many eyeballs (Excess workload)

Go talk to any working SBI PO professional they always complain about the workload. They even get jealous of RRB PO guys because they don’t have to deal with the same pressure and working hours. An SBI PO can daily attend to about 300 customers every single day whereas an RRB PO aspirant hardly deals with 30-50 customers.

SBI employees work under too much pressure because of its brand value in the Indian market. There are enough instances where employees aren’t treated well by the customers due to the lack of service or employees. On the other hand, in an RRB PO job you are treated as a typical Indian “Babu” even if you work as an assistant. For some people, it’s really important to experience the “feeling good” emotions at the workplace. And at the same time, some people may not demand the same.

RRB PO’s have a much better social life

Due to low walk-ins and overall workload, most regional rural banks start closing their accounts by as early as 4 pm. At SBI, you will never experience such an early closure. This give RRB employees the luxury of time which can very well be used for social experiences. A healthy life is incomplete without socialisation. Most blue zones (areas where people live for longer periods) all over the world have one thing in common and that is socialisation phenomenon.

Spare time for preparing for other banking or insurance exams

You can find many questions posted by SBI PO or Clerks on Quora about if they can take leaves for exam preparations while working. And the answer to this question is you will never be able to spare as much time as RRB PO employees do. For some people, it gets really tricky to keep preparing for further exams once they are permanently employed somewhere. The most tiring issue is time management. This is one of the advantages of IBPS RRB PO which can’t be ignored at any cost by someone who knows he or she is aspirational about other exams as well.

Addressing the Elephant in the Room (Pay check)

Well, yes, there is no question about the State Bank of India paying a much handsome salary to its probationary officers. And RRB will pay a little less to their probationary officers in comparison with SBI. But for some people that extra thousand might not be worth the same. Some people just prefer to come back at home by 5, enjoy a social life, work on themselves, etc. In order to fulfill such wishes, people do compromise or settle for less compensation. Some doctors prefer to work at government hospitals for way less and other doctors won’t even consider joining a government-run hospital.

So, the conclusion out of this article is really straightforward. Don’t fall for the shiny object syndrome just because the SBI PO exam has an SBI Logo on it. Again, this is not the article about the criticism but more about the unseen reality of IBPS RRB PO.
