Start Your Prep for SSC CHSL English Language & Comprehension

SSC CHSL Tier 2 will take place on June 26, 2023. Although there is substantial time left, we hope that you will be preparing for this exam at full throttle. Since you have already cleared Tier I, it simply shows the potential you carry. Now you need to clear the Tier 2 exam. The English Language & Comprehension section is one of the modules in the Tier II exam. The English Language & Comprehension section tests the candidates’ ability to understand and use English language effectively in various contexts. The module has 40 questions, each carrying 3 marks, and a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. The total marks for this module are 120.

Read extensively

Reading is one of the best ways to improve your English language skills. Reading helps you to enhance your vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and expression. You should read a variety of texts such as newspapers, magazines, books, blogs, etc. on different topics such as current affairs, science, history, culture, etc. You should also read the previous year question papers and sample papers of SSC CHSL to get familiar with the types of questions asked in the exam.

Practice regularly

Practice makes perfect. You should practice as many questions as possible from different sources such as mock tests, online quizzes, previous year papers, etc. You should also practice writing essays and letters on various topics for the Tier II exam. You should time yourself while practicing and try to improve your speed and accuracy. You should also analyze your performance and identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Revise frequently

Revision is essential to retain what you have learned and to avoid forgetting important concepts and facts. You should revise the topics that you have covered regularly and make notes of important points, formulas, rules, etc. You should also revise the words, idioms, phrases, etc. that you have learned and use them in sentences.

Attempt wisely

In the exam, you should attempt the questions wisely and strategically. You should read the questions carefully and understand what is asked before answering. You should avoid guessing or marking answers randomly as there is negative marking. You should attempt the questions that you are confident about first and then move on to the ones that you are unsure about. You should also keep track of time and manage it efficiently.
