SSC Selection Post Phase 14 2026 New Sectional Timing Rules & Study Plan
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the SSC Selection Post Phase 14 notification for 2026. While the 3,003 new vacancies bring big smiles, many students are in for a massive shock. For the first time ever, SSC has introduced a strict “Sectional Timer” in the Phase 14 exam. You can no longer spend 30 minutes just doing maths! If you are worried about this big change, do not worry. In this blog, we will break down the new timing rules and give you a solid step-by-step preparation plan to pass easily.
In previous years, you were given a total of 60 minutes for the whole paper. You could manage your own time. But in the 2026 Phase 14 exam, this freedom is gone. The computer will now automatically lock each section after exactly 15 minutes. Below, we have provided the new exam pattern you must understand:
| Subject Name | Total Questions | Total Marks | New Sectional Timer |
| General Intelligence (Reasoning) | 25 | 50 | 15 Minutes |
| General Awareness (GK) | 25 | 50 | 15 Minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) | 25 | 50 | 15 Minutes |
| English Language | 25 | 50 | 15 Minutes |
| Total | 100 Questions | 200 Marks | 60 Minutes |
Note: There is a heavy negative marking. You will lose exactly 0.50 marks for every wrong answer. Do not guess blindly.
This new 15-minute rule changes the way you must study. Here is why:
To beat this new timer, you need a very fresh study plan. Here is how you should prepare for each subject starting today:

4. General Awareness (GK) Tips
Reading books will not save you this year. You must practice the exact exam conditions at home. Stop giving old pattern mock tests. Buy a good online test series that has the new 15-minute sectional timer updated in its system. Give one full mock test every Sunday. Sit in a quiet room and train your brain to work under this new heavy time pressure. Keep your mind cool, and you will easily pass this exam.
