IBPS PO and RRB PO Basic Differences

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts both exams for IBPS PO as well as for RRB PO. The IBPS PO exam is recruiting candidates for the Public Sector Banks (Punjab National Bank, Union Bank, etc.).

The IBPS RRB PO exam is conducted to recruit candidates for the Regional Rural Banks (Bihar Gramin Bank, etc.). The location of work is different for both of these posts. An IBPS PO can get posted anywhere across India which may include urban, semi-urban or rural areas. On the other hand, RRB PO can get posted only in the state in which they have applied. They can get posted in rural and semi-urban areas.

For IBPS PO, you don’t need to be proficient in the local language of the state (basic Hindi and English are enough). IBPS POs may get promoted a bit fast when compared with RRB POs. The variation in their salary is also seen as you get a city compensatory allowance (CCA) in the IBPS PO post.

The IBPS PO Prelims exam consists of 3 sections such as English Language, Reasoning Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude.

The RRB PO Prelims exam consists of only 2 sections: Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude, making it easier for RRB PO Hindi medium aspirants to clear the prelims exam. This makes the RRB PO exam more competitive as compared to the IBPS PO exam.

Additionally, the IBPS PO Mains exam contains a descriptive paper of English (Essay and Letter Writing). The descriptive paper of the IBPS PO exam may be broadly based on Economic and Social issues, emerging trends in Banking and Technology, Current events, Ethics, etc.

The RRB PO Mains exam consists of 5 sections (Reasoning, English, Quant, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge).
