Step-by-Step Approach to Solve Sentence Rearrangement Questions

Follow the below given steps below to solve the sentence rearrangement questions quickly and accurately in the IBPS PO exam:

Step 1: Identify the Subject and Verb First

Every sentence needs a subject + verb to make sense.

Scan all parts and locate the subject (usually a noun or pronoun) and the main verb.
That part often comes early in the correct sentence.

Step 2: Find Mandatory Pairs

Some parts naturally go together and can’t be separated.

Common examples:

Verb + object → calls a meeting, discusses the issue
Preposition + noun → of the company, on the topic
Article + noun → a meeting, the decision
Infinitive structures → to discuss the matter, to improve the results

Step 3: Look for Connectors and Clues

Some parts will begin with linking words, which usually don’t start the sentence.

Conjunctions like: although, because, while, since, when
Prepositions: in, on, at, with, by
Articles: a, an, the (usually not first unless they start a noun phrase)

Step 4: Apply Grammar Sense and Logic

Check tense consistency.
See if modifiers (adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases) are placed correctly.
Ensure articles and determiners come just before nouns.

Step 5: Apply the Elimination Method

If given options (like A, B, C, D combinations), try:

Eliminating ones with grammatical errors.
Ignoring any option where: Subject–verb agreement is off, Modifiers are misplaced, and Prepositions are incorrectly placed.
