The SEBI Grade A Legal Officer selection process is designed to test both the legal knowledge and analytical abilities of candidates. The exam pattern and syllabus are crucial for building a smart preparation strategy.
The SEBI Grade A Legal exam is conducted in three stages – Phase I, Phase II, and an Interview. Both Phase I and Phase II are online exams, while the final stage is an interview round.

The Phase I exam is the first screening stage. It consists of two papers: Paper 1 (common for all streams) and Paper 2 (Legal-specific).

Note: Marks obtained in Phase I are only used for shortlisting candidates for Phase II. They are not counted in the final merit list.
Candidates who clear Phase I advance to Phase II, which evaluates descriptive writing skills and in-depth legal knowledge. This phase is more analytical and tests drafting and interpretation abilities, as well as conceptual clarity.

Note: All question papers (in both the Phases, except the test of English) will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.
Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Application fee shall not be refunded to the candidates not shortlisted for Phase II and the Interview. The candidate may opt for an interview in either Hindi or English. Weightage of marks obtained in Phase II will be 85%, while marks obtained in the interview shall be given a weightage of 15%. However, due weightage up to a maximum of 3.75 marks (i.e. 3.75% of the total 100 marks) will be given to candidates (applicable only for Legal and Engineering Electrical Stream) with relevant post-qualification experience as mentioned above.
