SEBI Grade A Legal Exam Pattern 2025

The SEBI Grade A Legal exam is conducted in three stages – Phase I, Phase II, and an Interview. Both Phase I and Phase II are online exams, while the final stage is an interview round.

SEBI Grade A Legal Phase I Exam Pattern 2025

The Phase I exam is the first screening stage. It consists of two papers: Paper 1 (common for all streams) and Paper 2 (Legal-specific).

  • Both papers are conducted online.
  • Paper 1 includes general aptitude and awareness topics.
  • Paper 2 focuses on legal and regulatory subjects.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
  • Candidates must secure minimum cut-offs in both papers and a 40% aggregate to qualify for Phase II.

SEBI Grade A Legal Phase II Exam Pattern 2025

Candidates who clear Phase I advance to Phase II, which evaluates descriptive writing skills and in-depth legal knowledge. This phase is more analytical and tests drafting and interpretation abilities, as well as conceptual clarity.

  • There shall be negative marking (1/4th of marks assigned to the question) for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of Paper 2 in Phase II.
  • There shall be a cut-off of a minimum 30% for Paper 1 and a cut-off of a minimum 40% for Paper 2 in Phase II.
  • Candidates would need to secure a separate cut-off in each paper as mentioned at (iv) above as well as aggregate cut-off marks of 50% in Phase II exam (weightage of 1/3rd for Paper 1 and 2/3rd for Paper 2) to be shortlisted for Phase III.
  • Subject to the criteria mentioned at (v) above, candidates equaling 3 times the number of vacancies shall be shortlisted, in order of merit, for Phase III i.e. the Interview. List of candidates shortlisted for the Interview will be made available on the SEBI website.

Note: All question papers (in both the Phases, except the test of English) will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.

Interview:

Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Application fee shall not be refunded to the candidates not shortlisted for Phase II and the Interview. The candidate may opt for an interview in either Hindi or English. Weightage of marks obtained in Phase II will be 85%, while marks obtained in the interview shall be given a weightage of 15%. However, due weightage up to a maximum of 3.75 marks (i.e. 3.75% of the total 100 marks) will be given to candidates (applicable only for Legal and Engineering Electrical Stream) with relevant post-qualification experience as mentioned above.
