SBI PO Mains is on Jul 20, 2019, leaving you with 37 days of preparation. Which section do you consider to be the most difficult one? If it’s the English Language, you should start your preparation from now only. A consistent preparation, timely review and working on the topics you are weak at will definitely improve your score in this section and will also give a nice boost to your overall score. It’s for this reason that we have come up with this article so that you can start your preparation and give your best in the actual exam.

Talking about the last year’s paper, there were 20 questions from the RC section itself. The topics of the RCs were “Discussion and comparison between growth model and fixed interest model mindset” (15 questions) and “Discussion about the different definition of innovation and invention” (5 questions). While the former RC pertained to the financial topic, the latter was of a generic one. It’s obvious that nobody could predict what passage will be asked in the actual exam but there are definitely some steps you can take so that whatever you come across in the exam can be dealt smoothly by you.

Tips to Ace the RC Section of SBI PO Mains 2019

Improve on Your Reading Speed

Reading speed matters a lot especially in the RC section. As discussed above, the diversity of the RC topic is extremely wide. However, you can be ready for this if you start doing the reading practice starting today itself. Pick up a financial and a political newspaper and start reading their editorials. You may get bored quickly if the topic is not of your choice. However, try focussing on the reading part and try understanding the context. Keep a dictionary handy as well.

On our platform, we publish a relevant editorial on a daily basis with the meanings of difficult words/phrases in English and Hindi. You can go through it. Seeing the topics from which passages were asked in previous similar exams, the topics can be divided into three categories: Social, Technical & Financial. So if there is an editorial on any of these topics, be sure that you go through and understand it.

Improve Your Word Power

The biggest impediment which you can face after complex sentences is difficult words/phrases. These words/phrases don’t just appear in RCs but in other questions as well for eg. Spot the Error, Para-Jumbles etc. It would be easier for you to answer most of the questions in the English Language section if you know the meaning of the word/phrases used in the question.

It is advisable to keep a dictionary handy so that you can instantly look out for the meaning. Make a note of the difficult and use flashcards to memorize them. As mentioned earlier, you can use the editorials-analysis published by us on a daily basis to improve your word-power. These analyses have the meanings of difficult words/phrases in English as well as Hindi.

Start Solving an RC on a daily basis

It takes slow but steady steps to master RC. We would strongly suggest that you start solving an RC on a daily basis. For a handful of initial days, start without any time-limit and when reading the Passage, try to stay focused. There’s no alternative to keeping your focus in your control. After around 10 days, start solving the RCs with time-limits and see where do you get your answers wrong. Sectional Tests have a detailed explanation of all the questions. Work on your weak areas and you shall surely master the RC section by the time the date of SBI PO Main arrives.

Wishing you good luck with your preparation!
