Passages that are based on economy and awareness, such as RBI policy changes and UPI and Fintech payments, government budgets, inflation rates, etc. To prepare for these topics, what you can do is read PIBs, The Hindu business section, where they have even explained some of the banking and economic terms. This way, you will be able to get used to such terms, and in the real exam, you will be able to read and understand the passage in less time. Here is a list of topics that come under the economy and banking awareness theme:

The kind of passages that can be given are based on the events, such as summits that happened to discuss ways to control global warming, climate change, the effects of climate change on endangered species, etc. Again, the best way to get accustomed to such passages is by reading The Hindu editorials and other environment-related blogs and magazines. Here is a list of topics that come under the climate change theme:

  • Greenhouse Effect.
  • Carbon Footprint.
  • Global Warming vs. Climate Change.
  • Fossil Fuels.
  • Extreme Weather Events.

  • Biotechnology
  • Robotics
  • Artificial Intelligence

Health/ Disease

What policies have been introduced in the health sector? What kind of loans are banks providing in this sector? Which diseases are prevailing in which area, etc? Such topics can be read in the Hindu editorial sections as well as in the general information section. What you have to do is start practicing reading the passages for around 3-4 minutes, along with getting the inference regarding which topic the passage is all about, in a particular line, and what the author tries to explain.  The topics are given below-

  • Medical advancements
  • Pandemics
  • Nutrition
  • Mental health

Archaeology

Certain archaeological findings have been made in recent times; their data, whether a particular finding has been included in the UNESCO site list, etc, are coming in this section. Again newspaper is the best source to read such articles. Another important source is the government website, which is the “national portal (heritage)” to read information on culture and heritage.

Renewable Energy

Many renewable energy projects, such as solar energy projects, windmill energy projects, and many other renewable energy-related government schemes, are going on. Several times, IBPS gives passages related to these topics and asks questions accordingly. Newspaper articles from The Indian Express and online blogs can be the best source for reading articles based on renewable energy.

Space and Agriculture

Both articles are generally very dynamic as there are various developments in this field. Candidates are required to read them in newspaper articles and news channel blogs. This reading will make sure that you get familiar with the category, and in the actual examination, you will be able to get an 80% correct inference from the given passage.

Tips to Prepare for Reading Comprehension Effectively

Here are a few tips to prepare for reading comprehension effectively-

  • What you have to do is build a good reading habit in less time. For this, try to read at least 2 reading comprehension, blogs, or newspaper articles of the type of articles discussed above.
  • Try to read in between the lines, meaning try to get the inference of the passage, what the author wants to convey to the audience using those words, who they are talking about, etc.
  • Practice inference-based questions, as they are asked mostly in IBPS PO Prelims exam. The exam is time-constrained and requires good reading skills and speed as well.
  • Along with reading passages, try to solve them as well using a timer. Check how many minutes you will be able to solve the question effectively.
