The Oriental Insurance Company Limited(OICL) has announced 300 vacancies for the post of Administrative Officer Scale 1 (285 Generalists and 15 Hindi Officers) through a detailed Notification which has been released on its official website www.orientalinsurance.org.in. OICL AO Eligibility Criteria 2025

A candidate must satisfy all the eligibility criteria, including Educational Qualification and Age Limit, as specified in the detailed notification. Generally, a Graduation degree is the minimum requirement for the Generalist post.

The OICL AO selection process is conducted in three distinct phases: Preliminary Exam (Tier-I), Main Exam (Tier-II), and Interview. The Main exam further consists of an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test.

  • The OICL AO Prelims Exam 2025 consists of 100 questions for 100 marks.
  • 20 marks will be allocated for each section; candidates will only get 60 total minutes to complete the paper.
  • For every wrong answer, there will be a 0.25 negative marking.

The syllabus for the OICL AO exam is divided into two distinct tiers: the Preliminary Examination (Tier-I), which is qualifying, and the Main Examination (Tier-II), which accounts for 80% of the final merit score.

OICL AO Prelims (Tier-I) Syllabus

This phase focuses on core aptitude and is a screening test. The emphasis is on speed, accuracy, and clearing the sectional as well as overall cut-offs.

Reasoning Ability 

  • Puzzles & Seating Arrangement: Linear, Circular, Box, Floor-based, and Tabular Puzzles.
  • Logical Deductions: Syllogism (New & Old Pattern).
  • Relationships: Blood Relations, Direction Sense.
  • Coding: Coding-Decoding (New Pattern).
  • Comparison: Coded Inequalities.
  • Order & Series: Alphanumeric/Symbol Series, Ranking / Alphabet Test.

Quantitative Aptitude 

  • Speed Math: Simplification/Approximation, Number Series (Missing/Wrong/Double Pattern), Quadratic Equations, BODMAS, Squares & Cubes, Fractions, Indices, Percentages (Basic).
  • Data Interpretation (DI): Basic Table DI, Pie Chart DI, Line Chart DI, Bar Chart DI.
  • Arithmetic: Basic word problems on Age Problems, Simple & Compound Interest (CI/SI), Time and Work, Ratio and Proportion, Profit, Loss & Discount, Average.

English Language 

  • Vocabulary & Grammar: Error Spotting, Sentence Correction/Improvement, Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Meaning/Usage.
  • Comprehension: Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para Jumbles (basic).
  • Other: Paragraph Completion, Miscellaneous.

OICL AO Mains (Tier-II) Syllabus

The Mains exam is highly competitive and introduces General Awareness and Computer Knowledge, along with a Descriptive Test.

Reasoning Ability

  • High-Level Puzzles: Advanced Puzzles, Scheduling, Uncertain Puzzles.
  • Critical Reasoning: Statement and Assumption/Conclusion/Inference/Argument, Cause and Effect, Course of Action.
  • Advanced Logic: Data Sufficiency (Two & Three-Statement Questions), Logical Ability.
  • Input-Output: High-level arrangement of words/numbers.
  • Coding-Decoding: Conditional coding.

Quantitative Aptitude

  • Advanced Data Interpretation (DI): Mixed DI, Caselet DI, Radar/Triangle DI, Funnel DI, Arithmetic DI.
  • Data Sufficiency: Two-Statement and Three-Statement Questions based on arithmetic topics.
  • Advanced Arithmetic: Complex word problems on Partnership, Mixture and Allegation, Time and Work/Pipe and Cistern, Speed, Time & Distance (Boats/Streams/Trains), Probability, Permutation and Combination, Mensuration (2D & 3D).
  • Algebra & Number System: Basic Algebra, HCF & LCM.

General Awareness 

This section is critical and requires thorough, dedicated preparation.

  • Insurance & Financial Sector Awareness: History of Indian Insurance, IRDAI and other regulatory bodies, Insurance Schemes, Banking Awareness (Terms, Acts, Rates), Indian Financial System, Capital & Money Markets.
  • Current Affairs: National & International News (focus on the last 6 months), National Appointments, Summits, Defence, Books & Authors, Awards, Sports, Obituaries.
  • Economics: Budget Basics & Current Union Budget, Economic Terminologies, Government Schemes.
  • Static GK: Important International Organizations / Financial Institutions, Abbreviations.

English Language 

  • Higher Difficulty Level: All Prelims topics (RC, Cloze Test, Error Spotting) are tested with increased complexity and nuanced questions.
  • Paragraph/Sentence Starters and Connectors.
  • Word Swap and Usage.

Computer Knowledge 

  • Fundamentals: Hardware, Software, Operating Systems (OS).
  • Networking & Internet: LAN, WAN, Basic Networking Topologies, Protocols, Internet (WWW, Email).
  • Security: Computer Security, Viruses, Cyber Security Basics.
  • Office & Database: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), DBMS basics.

Descriptive English Test

This test assesses your written communication skills, which is essential for an Administrative Officer role.

  • Essay Writing: Topics usually revolve around current affairs, economics, social issues, or the insurance/banking sector.
  • Letter Writing: Formal and Informal Letters.
  • Précis Writing: Summarising a given passage (sometimes replaces the letter).

Professional Knowledge (Specialist Posts)

For Specialist Officer posts (e.g., IT, Accounts, Law), a section dedicated to the relevant discipline will replace some of the Generalist Objective content.

  • The syllabus is entirely based on the core curriculum of the relevant degree (e.g., Law, CA, IT).

OICL AO Salary

The OICL AO (Scale-I) is a highly lucrative post in the insurance sector, offering an attractive compensation package. The initial basic pay of an Administrative Officer is approximately ₹50,925/-. Including various allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), and other perks (e.g., transport, fuel, medical), the Gross Monthly Emoluments in a metropolitan city typically range around ₹85,000/-.

OICL AO Admit Card

The OICL AO Prelims Admit Card will be issued approximately 7-10 days before the scheduled examination date of January 10, 2026. Candidates will be able to download their admit card from the official OICL website using their Registration Number and Password.

The result for the OICL AO Prelims exam will be declared tentatively a few weeks after the examination is conducted. The final merit list and selection result, based on the combined marks of the Mains Exam and Interview, will be issued after the conclusion of all recruitment stages.
