Tips to Solve Number Pairing & Rearrangement Questions

1. Read the Condition Carefully

  • Understand what transformation needs to be applied (e.g., sorting, adding/subtracting digits, reversing order).
  • Check if it’s ascending/descending, from left/right, or involves odd/even digits.

2. Note the Original Number Clearly

  • Write the given number clearly on paper or your rough sheet.
  • Break it into individual digits and label their positions if needed.

3. For Position-Based Rearrangement Questions:

  • Rearrange the number as instructed (e.g., ascending from left or right).
  • Compare the position of digits before and after the arrangement.
  • Count how many digits remained unchanged in position.

4. For Digit-Based Transformation (Addition/Subtraction):

  • Apply the given rule to each digit:
    • E.g., odd +1, even -2.
  • Write the new number after modification.
  • Then proceed to solve the actual question (sum, position, comparison).

5. For Interchanging Positions:

  • Carefully swap the digits as instructed (first ↔ last, second ↔ second-last, etc.).
  • Redraw the number after changes.
  • Use clear marking (L1 ↔ R1, L2 ↔ R2) if needed to avoid confusion.

6. Use Elimination in Options

  • For position and sum-based questions, back-solve with options if you’re short on time.
  • Eliminate options that are not close to what you observe.

7. Practice Regularly

  • These questions are tricky only if you’re not used to handling them.
  • With practice, solving becomes visual and quick.
