IGNOU JAT Exam Pattern 2023 (Junior Assistant- cum- Typist )

Candidates must go through a Computer Based Test (CBT) in either Hindi or English. A total of 150 questions will be given to test the candidate’s skills in two hours. Each question carries one mark. PwBD candidates will be given extra time as per Govt norms.

IGNOU has crafted the IGNOU JAT Exam Syllabus 2023 to examine the candidates’ General Awareness and General Abilities, including verbal ability and Computer knowledge required skill for day-to-day office activities. Given below are all the topics and subtopics that make up the latest IGNOU JAT Exam Syllabus 2023:

1. Mathematical Abilities Number Systems:

It includes the Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, and Relationships between numbers.

  • Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: Percentages, Square Roots, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Discount, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Mixture and Alligation, Partnership Business, Time and Distance, Time and Work.
  • Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) & Graphs of Linear Equations.
  • Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, angles subtended by chords of a circle,  tangents, common tangents to two or more processes. 
  • Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cylinder, Right Circular Cone, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Sphere, Hemispheres, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base. 
  • Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Height and distances (simple problems only), Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Standard Identities like sin2𝜃 + Cos2𝜃=1 etc. 
  • Statistics and Probability: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Pie Chart, Bar-diagram, Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, standard deviation; calculation of simple probabilities

  • General Awareness questions are framed to test the candidates’ general awareness of their surroundings, societal application, current events, everyday happenings, and observations and experiences.
  • Questions related to India and its neighbouring countries related to History, Culture, Geography, Economics, Science, General Policy, and Scientific Research. 

5. Computer Knowledge Module

  • Computer Basics – Organization of a computer, input/output devices, Central Processing Unit (CPU), computer memory, backup machines, memory organization, Windows Explorer, PORTs, and Keyboard shortcuts. 
  • Software – Windows Operating System including basics of Microsoft Office like MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint, etc. 
  • Internet and emails – Web Browsing & Searching, Managing an Email Account, Downloading & Uploading, and e-Banking.
  • Basics of networking and cyber security – Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojans, etc.) & preventive measures.
