IBPS SO is a national-level competitive exam conducted every year to recruit candidates for Specialist Officer posts. The IBPS SO Prelims exam is scheduled for 30th August 2025, and the mains exam is scheduled for 9th November 2025. The online application process hasn’t started yet. IBPS SO English Topic-wise Weightage

In the IBPS SO Prelims exam, English Language consists of 50 questions of 25 marks. And the time duration is 40 minutes for this section. There is a negative marking of 1/4th of the marks allotted per question. It is essential to prepare important topics based on their weightage in the exam.

IBPS SO English Topic-wise Tips with Example

The important English language topics for the IBPS SO exam include Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para Jumble, Error Spotting, Sentence Improvement, and Fill in the Blanks. Other topics are also important, but these topics are based on the previous year’s trends.

Reading Comprehension (RC) – 10 to 15 questions

  • Understand the Passage themes: Banking, Economy, Technology, Social Issues.
  • Locate Questions in Passage: Inference, Synonym/Antonym, Tone, Direct facts.
  • Choose the Best Answer and eliminate options that don’t suit the context.

Para Jumbles – 5 to 6 questions
