IBPS Rules for Detecting Non-Genuine Scores

Home » Banking Awareness » IBPS Rules for Detecting Non-Genuine Scores

IBPS has shared clear standards on how it checks whether a candidate’s exam score is genuine. The goal is simple: to protect honest students who attempt the exam independently and fairly. All candidates taking an IBPS exam must follow these norms.

Why IBPS Performs These Checks

IBPS uses all available exam-related information to ensure that no one gets an unfair advantage. This includes:

  • Any disturbance or irregularity during the exam
  • Issues in candidate identification
  • Reports of misconduct
  • Any administrative problems at the exam venue

These checks help IBPS make sure genuine candidates are not affected.

What Data IBPS Analyses

IBPS has procedures to closely study a candidate’s score. If the score appears non-genuine, it is cancelled. The data used for this analysis includes:

  • Reports from invigilators and candidates about exam-day irregularities
  • The exact responses submitted by candidates
  • Patterns, inconsistencies, and answering methods
  • Misconduct reports
  • Any procedural or administrative issues

How IBPS Detects Non-Genuine Scores

To find out if a score is obtained unfairly or through any kind of collaboration, IBPS performs several detailed checks:

1. Comparison of Answers

Candidates’ answers are compared with others to detect similarities. This includes:

  • Objective-type answers
  • Descriptive answers

2. Descriptive Paper Analysis

For descriptive tests, IBPS checks for:

  • Similarity with content shown to candidates during the exam
  • Use of irrelevant fillers (“padding”)
  • Any attempt to trick the system

3. Verification of Test-Day Information

All information collected during the exam session, including ID documents, is analysed.

4. Comparison With Past Records

IBPS examines:

  • Application data
  • Previous scores
  • Earlier exam records
  • Patterns and methodology used to arrive at answers

Important Instructions to Students

IBPS already informs candidates through:

  • The admit card
  • The “Acquaint Yourself Booklet”

It clearly states that answer patterns will be analysed. If IBPS concludes that a score is not genuine, it can cancel the result without giving any notice.

Even after results are declared, if new analysis or information shows the score is non-genuine, IBPS can still cancel it and also inform the recruiting organisation.

Review by a Special Committee

Before cancelling any score, IBPS sends the case to the Committee for Detection of Unfair Means.
This committee:

  • Reviews all data and analysis
  • Checks evidence carefully
  • Confirms whether the score is non-genuine

If the committee concludes the score is not valid, it recommends cancellation or disqualification. These methods have been upheld by courts in India and are used by global testing organisations as well.
