Preparation tips based on weightage

To maximise your score in the Reasoning Ability section, align your preparation with the topic-wise weightage and focus on the following strategies:

Prioritize high-weightage topics:

  • Dedicate 50-60% of your study time to puzzles and seating arrangements, as they dominate both prelims and mains. Practice at least 5-10 puzzles daily, progressing from basic to advanced levels. Use resources like mock tests and previous years’ papers.
  • For prelims, focus on linear/circular arrangement and floor-based puzzles. For mains, practice complex puzzles with multiple variables (e.g., scheduling or classification).

Master quick-scoring topics:

  • Syllogism, alphanumeric series, and inequalities are relatively easy and less time-consuming. Practice 20-30 questions daily for each to build speed and accuracy. Use Venn diagrams for syllogisms and remember alphabetic positions for alphanumeric series.
  • In the mains, focus on advanced syllogism and logical reasoning questions. Practice reverse syllogism and statement-based questions to handle tricky formats.

 Strengthen analytical skills:

  • For the mains, focus on logical reasoning and data sufficiency. Solve 10-15 questions daily from topics like cause-effect, inference, and two-statement data sufficiency to improve critical thinking.
  • Practice coding-decoding with fictitious language or machine input-output formats, as these are common in the mains. Break down complex problems into steps to avoid mistakes.

Time management:

  • In the prelims, aim to solve easy topics (syllogisms, inequalities, alphanumeric series) within the first 15-20 minutes to score quickly, leaving 25-30 minutes for puzzles.
  • In the main exam, allocate 20-25 minutes to puzzles and logical reasoning, as they fetch higher marks. Avoid getting stuck on a single question; move on after 2-3 minutes and look at it again if time permits.

Practice with mock tests:

Take 2-3 full-length mock tests weekly to simulate exam conditions and improve time management. Analyse your performance to identify weaknesses
