The IBPS RRB PO Prelims Cut Off 2023 state-wise and category-wise varied across different States and categories. Since the number of vacancies differed from one State to another, the qualifying marks also varied accordingly.

Candidates should not analyse only whether the IBPS RRB PO previous-year cut-off was high or low. A more useful analysis looks at the direction of change, state-wise spread, category-wise variation and stage-wise movement.
IBPS RRB PO Previous-year data should be used as a planning tool, not as a prediction guarantee.
For example, suppose a candidate’s state recorded a General-category Prelims cut-off of around 58 in the previous cycle. The candidate should not set 58 as the only target. A better strategy is to aim substantially above the previous benchmark and track performance in full-length mocks.
The same approach should be followed for Mains. Because the Mains cut-off depends on state and category, candidates should target a score that gives them room for variation rather than relying on the historical minimum.
Candidates should ideally target a score comfortably above the IBPS RRB PO expected state-wise cut-off. For General-category candidates, a 60+ Prelims score can be used as a broad preparation target, although the required score may be higher in competitive states.
The key point is that a “safe score” is a preparation benchmark, not a guaranteed selection score. Actual qualification depends on the official state/category cut-off released by IBPS.
For General-category candidates, 85+ marks can be used as a broad Mains preparation target based on the current expected range for the IBPS RRB PO exam. However, candidates preparing for states with historically higher cut-offs should consider setting an even higher target.
Because the Mains contributes to the final merit calculation, candidates should not prepare merely to cross the previous year’s Mains cut-off.
