IB ACIO Section-wise Preparation Strategy

The IB ACIO exam consists of five subjects: current affairs, general studies, numerical aptitude, reasoning and logical aptitude, and English Language. Preparation of the subject individually is important if you want to score well in the exam.

a. General Studies and Current Affairs

  • Focus on the last 6-8 months of current affairs before the exam. Current affairs is the main part of this section and the most scoring.
  • Prepare static GK topics like Indian polity, history, geography, economy, and important constitutional articles. These topics also carry a high weightage in the exam.
  • Make sure you are maintaining a notebook or creating your notes. That will be useful during the last days of the exam.
  • Focus on your practice and, most importantly, on current affairs. You can attempt free weekly current affairs quizzes on PracticeMock.
  • This topic can be covered easily if you have a good focus on your revision. So make sure you are revising your notes regularly.

b. Numerical Aptitude

  • Start your preparation from basic topics such as percentages, averages, ratios, and number systems, with a little practice on them.
  • Spend at least 30–45 minutes daily solving 15–20 questions from key topics like Time & Work, SI/CI, and Data Interpretation.
  • As this is the time-consuming section, try to work on shortcuts and tricks so that you can solve questions in less time and efficiently.
  • Solve topic-wise tests so that you can focus on each topic individually and able to improve your speed and accuracy.

c. Reasoning and Logical Aptitude

  • Focus on topics such as series, coding-decoding, blood relations, etc. These topics are the most scoring ones and are mostly asked.
  • Solve questions related to puzzles, seating arrangements, and input-output, and while solving questions from these topics, try to analyze the patterns and how to build a logical flow.
  • Attempt at least 15-20 questions of reasoning under time conditions. This will not only help you in practice, but it will also help you to improve your speed and time management skills.
  • Make sure to attempt previous year questions to analyze the types of questions asked in the exam.
  • Questions from reasoning can be solved using tricks and shortcuts. You are advised to make a notebook and write down all the tricks and shortcuts, and practice them so that you can increase your accuracy and speed in solving the questions.

d. English Language

  • If you want to increase your score in the English section, then focus on your grammar and vocabulary skills. Questions will be asked about these topics frequently.
  • Create a habit of reading newspapers, editorials, novels, and books to improve comprehension, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
  • Practice topics like Cloze Tests & Fill in the Blanks because these are high-scoring areas. Practice 5–10 questions daily to get used to context-based grammar.
  • Make sure to learn at least 10-15 new words daily with their meanings and attempt 20-25 questions daily for practice.
