Strategy to Solve Puzzle Questions in 3–4 Minutes

To clear the Reasoning section cutoff with ease, you must learn how to solve high-level puzzles within 3 to 4 minutes. Here is a smart and practical strategy:

1. Start with the Right Puzzle

Not every puzzle in the exam is meant to be solved. Select the puzzle that:

  • Has clear clues in the beginning
  • Contains direct relationships
  • Uses less variables

Avoid puzzles with confusing or contradictory clues in the first reading.

2. Read All Clues Once, Then Start Mapping

Do not start writing after the first clue.
First, read the entire puzzle and identify:

  • Fixed clues
  • Negative clues
  • Common linking points
Once you understand the structure, you can avoid rewrites and save time.

3. Make a Clean Base Diagram

Use small, neat, and clear rough diagrams such as:

  • Horizontal/vertical slots
  • Circular blocks
  • Floor-number columns
A clean diagram reduces confusion and helps you avoid mistakes.

4. Solve Using Block Formation Technique

High-level puzzles often hide important links inside long statements.
Focus on building blocks:

  • “A sits 3rd to the left of B” → A___B
  • “C is not on 2nd, 3rd, 4th floor” → Eliminate positions directly
Block formation improves accuracy and saves 30–40 seconds.

5. Use Elimination Aggressively

Instead of searching for the right option, remove the wrong ones fast.
In puzzles with multiple cases:

  • Maintain Case 1, Case 2
  • Eliminate cases instantly when a contradiction appears
This keeps your attempt smooth and efficient.

6. Do Not Spend More Than 4 Minutes on One Puzzle

Even if you are close to the solution, leave the puzzle if it takes more than 4 minutes.
In prelims, your target is to:

  • Gain marks
  • Maintain accuracy
  • Attempt maximum scoring questions

Time management decides your final score.

7. Practise at Exam Speed Daily

To master puzzles, solve:

  • 4–5 moderate puzzles
  • 2 high-level puzzles
  • 1 full reasoning mock
    every day before the exam.

This builds both speed and confidence.

Conclusion

With just a few days left for the RRB Clerk 2025 , smart practice of high-level puzzles can significantly improve your score. Use the free PDF, revise all puzzle varieties, and follow the 3-4 minute solving strategy to boost your marks in the reasoning section.
