Cut-offs are the minimum marks that candidates need to score to be eligible for admission to MTech, MSc, and PhD courses offered at the participating institutes. The cut-offs for GATE 2023 exam which held recently will be released on March 16, 2023. These cut-offs are based on a number of factors viz. total number of available seats, marks obtained by candidates, number of candidates appeared in this exam, etc.
Those candidates who clear the GATE 2023 cut-offs will be eligible to participate in the CCMT counselling for admission to IIITs, NITs, and CFTIs and COAPS for admission to IITs. Besides, the cut-offs are also used for PSU recruitment. For your convenience, we are publishing the previous year cut-offs so that you get an idea on what can be expected this year.
As mentioned earlier, cut-offs depend on a number of factors which are below:
| Dates | Upcoming Exam Dates |
| Feb 15, 2023 – Feb 20, 2023 | Availability of response sheet |
| Feb 21, 2023 – Feb 25, 2023 | Availability of provisional answer keys |
| Feb 22, 2023 – Feb 25, 2023 | Challenge Answer Keys |
| Mar 16, 2023 – Mar 31, 2023 | GATE 2023 Result announcement |
| Mar 21, 2023 – Mar 31, 20’23 | GATE 2023 Scorecard availability |
The official cut-offs have not been released yet. However, based on the previous years’ cut-offs and certain other factors, we are providing you with the expected cut-offs for GATE 2023 exam. Have a look:

GATE qualifying cut-off is the institute eligibility cut-off while the GATE admission cut-off ensures a call for admission at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. The qualifying GATE cutoff is released by the conducting authority and available on GOAPS while the admission cutoffs are released by the individual participating institute and available on their respective counselling portals- CCMT/ COAPS.
| Qualifying GATE cut-offs | Admission GATE cut-offs |
| Also referred to as eligibility cut-off for IITs, NIT, IIITs, and CFTIs, it is the minimum marks a candidate must score so that s/he is eligible for admission. | It is the final opening and closing rank score fixed by the participating institutes for the selection of candidates. |
| Meeting the qualifying cut-off does not mean the candidate will be selected for admission | Meeting the admission GATE cut-off does not mean that the candidate will be selected for admission. |
| It is fixed before the announcement of GATE results | It is fixed after the declaration of GATE result date |
