When you apply online for the IBPS Clerk 2025, you will be asked preference of a location. There, you need to select your most preferred location for the IBPS Clerk as your first preference. The IBPS Clerk exam application is expected to start in October 2025. Also, you need to keep in mind that you have a valid local language certificate for the state/UT you are applying for. According to the IBPS policy, the candidates can apply from only one state and they will be given an exam centre in that state/UT only, which they selected while applying for the IBPS Clerk Job.

Are Inter-State Transfers Allowed in IBPS Clerk?

When you’re selected, you will be generally assigned to a branch within the state you’ve applied for. And according to the sources, inter-state transfers are not typically allowed in clerical cadre positions. This means that you will not be allowed to transfer within your state after the selection.

Is a Local Language Certificate needed for IBPS Clerk?

No, you are not required to submit a local language certificate. You need to be proficient in the local language of the state/UT you are applying to. And you need to pass the Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT). This means you should be able to read, write, and understand the language. While a formal language certificate is not required for the application, candidates should be prepared to prove their proficiency in the local language. The LPT is a qualifying test, meaning candidates need to meet the minimum requirement to proceed in the selection process, not necessarily a high score. It aims to assess the candidate’s ability to communicate effectively with local clients, as bank clerks often interact with customers in their local language.
