Q1. A man buys a radio for ₹800 and sells it for ₹1000. Find his profit percentage.
(a) 20%
(b) 25%
(c) 30%
(d) 15%
Answer: (b) 25%
Logic:
Profit = 1000 − 800 = 200
Profit % = (200 ÷ 800) × 100 = 25%
Q2. A and B together can complete a work in 15 days, and A alone can complete it in 20 days. In how many days can B alone complete the work?
(a) 60 days
(b) 45 days
(c) 30 days
(d) 40 days
Answer: (a) 60 days
Logic:
Use formula: (x × y) ÷ (y − x)
Here x = 15, y = 20
(15 × 20) ÷ (20 − 15) = 300 ÷ 5 = 60 days
(OR)
Total work = 60 units
A + B = 4 units/day
A = 3 units/day
So B = 1 unit/day
Time = 60 ÷ 1 = 60 days
Q3. Find the Simple Interest on ₹5000 at 10% per annum for 3 years.
(a) ₹1000
(b) ₹1500
(c) ₹2000
(d) ₹1200
Answer: (b) ₹1500
Logic:
SI = (P × R × T) ÷ 100
SI = (5000 × 10 × 3) ÷ 100 = 1500
Q4. The average of 5 consecutive numbers is 20. The largest of these numbers is:
(a) 20
(b) 22
(c) 24
(d) 21
Answer: (b) 22
Logic:
Average = middle number
Numbers = 18, 19, 20, 21, 22
Largest = 22
Q5. A train 150 meters long is running at a speed of 54 km/hr. Time taken to cross a pole is:
(a) 8 sec
(b) 10 sec
(c) 12 sec
(d) 15 sec
Answer: (b) 10 sec
Logic:
Convert speed into m/s:
54 × (5 ÷ 18) = 15 m/s
Time = Distance ÷ Speed
Time = 150 ÷ 15 = 10 seconds
Q6. If the ratio of A : B is 2 : 3 and B : C is 4 : 5, then find A : B : C.
(a) 8 : 12 : 15
(b) 2 : 3 : 5
(c) 8 : 12 : 20
(d) 6 : 12 : 15
Answer: (a) 8 : 12 : 15
Logic:
Make B equal in both ratios.
A : B = 2 : 3 → multiply by 4 → 8 : 12
B : C = 4 : 5 → multiply by 3 → 12 : 15
So A : B : C = 8 : 12 : 15
Q7. By selling an article for ₹720, a shopkeeper loses 10%. To gain 5%, he should sell it for:
(a) ₹800
(b) ₹840
(c) ₹850
(d) ₹900
Answer: (b) ₹840
Logic:
₹720 is 90% of Cost Price
1% = 720 ÷ 90 = 8
To gain 5% → need 105%
105 × 8 = ₹840
Q8. A sum of money doubles itself in 10 years at Simple Interest. What is the rate of interest?
(a) 5%
(b) 10%
(c) 20%
(d) 8%
Answer: (b) 10%
Logic:
If money doubles → total interest = 100%
Rate = (100 ÷ 10) = 10% per year
Q9. 12 men can complete a work in 16 days. In how many days can 8 men complete the same work?
(a) 20
(b) 24
(c) 32
(d) 18
Answer: (b) 24
Logic:
M₁D₁ = M₂D₂
12 × 16 = 8 × D
192 = 8D
D = 24 days
Q10. The price of sugar is increased by 20%. By what percent should a housewife reduce her consumption to keep the expenditure same?
(a) 20%
(b) 25%
(c) 16.66%
(d) 10%
Answer: (c) 16.66%
Logic:
Required decrease % = (R ÷ (100 + R)) × 100
= (20 ÷ 120) × 100
= 1/6 × 100
= 16.66%
