Use the Quantitative Aptitude Section to the Fullest

The Reasoning Ability & Numerical Ability section in this exam will have 50 questions which should be dealt in 120 minutes (there is no sectional timing so in these 120 minutes, you will have to deal with 110 questions of General Knowledge, Current Affairs and English Language with Special Emphasis on Grammar and vocabulary and Insurance and Financial Marketing Awareness with special emphasis on knowledge of Life Insurance and Financial Sector). This leaves you with around 45 seconds for each question.

This is one section which if properly answered, can elevate your overall score to a good high. Revise & practice questions on different concepts and formulas. Talking about the cut-offs, there are sectional cut-offs which means that in all sections, you need to clear its respective cut-off. Also, please keep in mind there is an overall cut-off in place. That means you need to clear the sectional as well as the overall cut-offs. Let’s now have a look at the 7 tips.

7 Tips to Ace the Quantitative Aptitude Section of LIC AAO Prelims

  1. Memorize the squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots of numbers up to 30. This comes really handy in questions on number series, simplification and approximation.
  2. Be ready for surprises (if any): be it in the form of change in the format of the question paper or a question you haven’t encountered before. Any surprise will be for all the aspirants. So don’t get anxious and try to find out what the question is trying to ask. Keep taking Mock Tests as they incorporate new types of questions on a regular basis to make you ready for any surprise.
  3. Be an expert in approximating while calculating. While it obviously helps in questions on simplification and approximation, it sometimes helps you in questions on data interpretation as well.
  4. The concepts of percentages, averages & ratios should be crystal clear in your mind. Ideally, you need not pick a pen to solve most of the questions on these topics. Very often, these concepts are tested in questions on data interpretation.
  5. Assess the question’s difficulty level before you start solving it and don’t take more than 15-20 seconds for this purpose. Also, don’t take any questions on your ego. If while solving, you get an idea that the question may take substantial time, skip it and move to the next question.
  6. There isn’t any negative marking in this exam, so don’t leave any questions unanswered.
  7. Finally, keep evaluating your performance via Mock Tests. There isn’t any substitute for practicing and Mock Tests are one of the best tools for practice.
